Actor Testimonials

“After uploading my show reel to YouTube, I’ve increased my profile and been offered some interesting and challenging roles by name producers and directors.”
– Jodie Campbell

“I invested in a one-scene demo reel so I could shop around for a new agent and within a fortnight I secured representation by one of Sydney’s most reputable actors agents.”
– Luciano Schinella

“With less than 24 hours notice to shoot a two-line audition piece supplied by Barrett Casting I contacted the Screen Actors Workshop and within two hours the scene was shot, edited, mastered to DVD and uploaded to YouTube as instructed by my agent. With such short notice I wasn’t expecting much, but the final result far exceeded my expectations.”
– Ashley Jeffrey

“Because the quality and production values of scenes shot in class at the Screen Actors Workshop are of such a high standard, anything committed to tape can potentially be used for a show reel or demo scene. When applying for the role of a detective early in my career, Alan supplied me with an edited workshop scene in which I played a drug squad detective interviewing two suspects about a shipping container full of drugs.  I gave a copy of the scene to the director and was hired on the spot!”
– Agoes Soedjarwo Actor

“Alan edited a 2 minute show reel for me and I’m really happy with the result! He also recommended some reputable actors agents who may be interested in me and I can’t wait to show it to them.”
– Advanced teen student Serae Kopra

Tyre Kickers

Every couple of class terms or so, we run into a time wasting “Tyre Kicker.” Tyre Kickers are the term we use to describe fearful people. The type of person who wants to do something different and exciting but whose fear of failure prevents them from doing anything meaningful. This type of person will book […]

Getting Started

You’ve got an agent now. They like you. You like them. Then you get your first job. It’s an extra bit. Standard issue starting point. You turn up to the set. Don’t be nervous. You’re undergoing training and you were picked to be on-set. Relax. Have a look around. Take it all in. Do what […]

Wooden Acting

When an actor’s performance is described as “wooden,” what does that mean? Basically it means that the performance is forced, in other words, the feelings and emotions are “acted,” not felt. Good acting is living in the moment and truthfully experiencing what the character is feeling emotionally from moment to moment. Wooden acting can be […]

Finding the right acting tutor

The first step in commencing your budding acting career is to find the right acting school and, most importantly, the right acting teacher for you. If you want to learn stage acting then you have a wide choice of institutions. If you want to study screen acting, the choices are limited. But the most critical […]

Truthful Acting

Truthful acting means just that. It means don’t ACT for the camera but instead have an experience! Feel what the character is feeling from moment to moment and immerse yourself fully into the role. The camera is a great bullshit detector and if you’re “acting” then the camera will immediately read the performance as phony […]
